Deadly Pressure Point Fighting Techniques
Lee you don’t see MMA fighters practicing Kata they shadow instead as part of their martial arts training.
The question is are Kata’s effective and do they really work?
Kata’s are the forms that traditional martial arts systems practice to sharpen their techniques.
Styles like Karate, Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu all incorporate Kata or forms in their training.
There’s a stigma that allot of this stuff is completely in-effective.
And their RIGHT!
But only to a certain extent.
I trained in Wado Ryu Karate in my teens, and Japanese system of martial arts, this system contains allot of Kata’s.
Allot of the applications in the Kata’s where taught to me completely wrong.
Especially all the so called blocking techniques, outer block, inward block.
That flat out wouldn’t work the way they were being taught to me.
They weren’t blocks at all and would never work as much in a street confrontation.
Allot of inexperienced Instructors travelled the world in the 60′s and 70′s and taught a watered down version of the true applications.
And quite frankly allot of people didn’t want foreigners learning the secrets to thiese techniques.
Today allot of people practice Kata as a kind of physical meditation.
I know allot of Karateka’s have been discouraged because of this too.
It’s like Chinese whispers and allot got it completely wrong.
This turned me off…because I couldn’t see the point to learning stuff that didn’t work.
That was until many years later I learnt the REAL hidden applications of the Katas.
The ones that where deadly effective for the street and could even kill a man.
Many of them are pressure point techniques, you have to be careful even practicing these moves.
Hit someone with only a little force and your training partner could be out cold.
Pressure points are certainly hotly debated in terms of are they worth training.
Theres no doubt they exist we have acupuncture!
I think pressure point training requires allot of training to make it work.
A little like a Tai Chi master it can take years to pull off effectively as self defense.
